Abstract


Objective: The purpose of this study is to study the demand and perception of parents for oral health education, which is being conducted as part of school health education in middle and high schools.

Methods: The subjects were 317 parents with adolescent children who took a questionnaire survey. Data were analyzed by frequency analysis and chi-square. Statistical significance level was set at p<0.05.

Results: As the place where oral health education should be conducted, the school was the highest with 58.4%. As a starting point of education, 43.3% said that education should be continued from preschool age to adulthood. The parent gender difference confirmed in time (p=0.001) and period of oral health education (p=0.003). Also, there was statistically significant differences difference in sugar reduction (p=0.01) and prevention management (p=0.02) according to experience of oral health education at home.

Conclusion: School oral health education and guidance and management at home and dental clinics should collaborate to establish the proper oral health behaviors in adolescence.
